NOTE - the highlighted matches are the ones that stood out to us

The most surprising match today was probably Kostyuk running over former Top 10 player in the world, Daria Kasatkina. Kostyuk is a promising, just turned 18-year-old player from Ukraine and has showed flashes of promise in the past. But after this steam roll over a former Top 10 player, it should give her the confidence to play her second round match here in New York. Kasatkina, when she held to make it 1-2 in the second set, she was really trying to get herself mentally back into the match. Pumping herself up, looking over to her box for support, and other small positive motions to get her back into the match. None the less, the young Ukrainian was too much for the Russian.

Another nail bitter was watching American, Jack Sock, come back to win in a fifth set tie breaker against Pablo Cuevas. Down 5-4 in the fifth with Cuevas serving for the match, Sock buckled in and showed Cuevas who he truly is: a fighter. This is a not just an ordinary win for Sock, it can be a pivotal point in his comeback to get back into the Top 20 form that he once had. Now coached by former ATP player, Alex Bogomolov Jr, he now looks to make a deep run in the 2020 US Open "Bubble".
