What a year for American Tennis!

3 American Men in the Top 20! Sloane Stephens and Madison Keys both in the Finals for the US Open?? What a year it has been for the American players. I will be the first to say it, we have been waiting for this day to come for a while. The day we can say that an American woman won a Grand Slam title that does not have the last name, Williams.

While Serena is enjoying her time being a new mother and wife, the American woman made a hard push to show that there is more to American tennis besides the Williams sisters. We can also point out that the United States won the Fed Cup as well, which is the first time they have won a Fed Cup title in 17 years! The ending rankings say it all for American Women. In the Top 25 we have;

6 - Venus Williams

10 - Coco Vandeweghe

13 - Sloane Stephens

19 - Madison Keys

22 - Serena Williams

It still amazes me that Serena Williams can stop playing for such a long and still be within the Top 50. Clearly shows how dominant her play is. But this uprising of American women started at the US Open where 3 out of the final 4 of the players were American Women; Coco Vandeweghe, Madison Keys, and Sloane Stephens. All three of these players are under the age of 27 and still show a lot of promise within the tennis community. As long as Madison Keys and Sloane can stay healthy, look out for both of them next year to make a big push into the Top 10.

As for the American men, we finally had an American man play in the ATP Finals. Jack Sock had an incredible run before qualifying into the end of the year tournament. He finished the year with a career high ranking of Number 8 and a Masters title under his belt. Even Sam Querrey was able to beat Rafael Nadal in the finals of the Abierto Mexicano for one of his two titles that he won in 2017. He even finished this year with a career high ranking of 13. John Isner recorded the same amount of trophies in 2017 as Sam Querrey and made a deep run into the Cincinnati Open as well as the Rome Open. Both prestigious Master 1000 events. Here are the current rankings of the American Men:

6 - Jack Sock

13 - Sam Querrey

17 - John Isner

44 - Steve Johnson

47 - Ryan Harrison

54 - Jared Donaldson

61 - Donald Young Jr.

79 - Frances Tiafoe

I think 2018 is going to be the year of US Tennis. Both on the WTA and ATP Tour. USA! USA! USA!
